ST. Leo, Fla. –  The University of Tampa Spartans defeated the Saint Leo University Lions by a final score of 17-8. The University of Tampa is now 10-4 on the 2019 season, 4-0 in the SSC.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

1st Period

• Tampa’s Jake Mosher McGraw scored the first goal of the contest off the assist by Matt Vetter.
• Saint Leo then scored two to give them the 2-1 lead. 
• The Spartans then netted four more goals in the first period. Of the four, Mosher McGraw scored two from Colin White and Chris Cox respectively. The other two goals were netted by Andrew Kewboth assisted by Kansai Garey. 
• SLU scored the last two goals of the first period. 
• Heading into the second, the Spartans led the Lions 5-4. 

 

2nd Period

• Saint Leo scored the first goal of the second period.
• UT then scored the last four goals of the half. 
• Garey netted the first of the four off the assist by White. 
• White then assisted Vetter for the second.
• The third of goals was by Luke Curran. 
• Finally, the last goal of the period was by White off the assist by Ross Dickerson. 
• Heading into halftime, the Spartans led the Lions 9-5.

  

3rd Period

• Colin White scored again for the Spartans in the first minute of the second half. He was assisted by Matt Vetter.
• The last three goals of the period were scored by Shane Hanlon, Dickerson, and Hanlon respectively. 
• At the end of the third period, UT continued to hold the lead over SLU 13-5. 

 

4th Period

• Mosher McGraw earned the first goal of the fourth period off the assist by Bryan Wright. 
• Matt Vetter the netted a UT goal. He was assisted by Devon Hess. 
• Vetter and Nicholas Ioannou scored Tampa’s 16^thand 17^thpoint. 
• The University of Tampa Spartans defeated the Saint Leo University Lions by a final score of 17-8. 

 

INSIDE THE STATS:

• Jake Mosher McGraw led the Spartans offense with a whopping four goals followed by Matt Vetter with three goals and two assists. 
• Ross Dickerson went 18-21 off the faceoff X. Additionally, he had one goal, one assist, and 17 stated groundballs. 
• B.J. Borowski played the majority of the game as the Spartan’s goalkeeper. The sophomore recorded 6 saves in the contest before Anthoney Caruso came in for part of the final period. Caruso recorded one save.

 The Spartans will return home on Wednesday, April 10 to host the Rollins College Tars at 8:00 p.m.
