Spartans Battle No. 3 Lions to Wire in SSC Quarters

BRADENTON, Fla. – The University of Tampa tennis team dropped a decision to top-five opponent Saint Leo University in the quarterfinals of the 2019 Sunshine State Conference Championships.

Final: No. 3 Saint Leo Lions 4, No.48 Tampa Spartans 2
Records: Tampa (12-8), Saint Leo (19-4)

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Tampa earned the doubles point with wins at the one and two matches while three went unfinished.
- The top doubles duo of Caroline Lozo and Dakota Busch took a 6-2 victory.
- The doubles point went to UT when the two team of Corbin Dorsey and Maddie Stephens prevailed by a tally of 6-4.
- Lozo also won her four singles match by scores of 6-3, 7-5.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
- Maddie Stephens concluded her Spartan career fourth all-time with 44 career singles victories.
- Junior Lilley Nice is also in the top-10 with 38 career singles victories.
- Stephens also stands at third in UT history with 45 doubles wins while Nice is seventh at 36.
