Spartans Battle Back to Defeat Florida Tech

MELBOURNE, Fla. – The University of Tampa tennis team rallied from an early deficit to take a Sunshine State Conference victory over Florida Tech.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Panthers took the doubles point with victories at the one and three contests.
- UT’s two team of Corbin Dorsey and Maddie Stephens won 7-5.
- The Spartans won four of the the six singles events.
- Vanina Iordanova won the number-one contest 6-1, 7-5.
- The three match was also won by the Spartans with junior Lilley Nice winning 6-3, 6-3.
- Senior Caroline Lozo prevailed in the deciding match as she broke a 3-3 tie with a 6-4, 5-7, 6-2 win at four.
- Dakota Busch was victorious by scores of 6-1, 6-0.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
- Maddie Stephens is fourth all-time with 41 career singles victories. Next on the list is Kelsey Matthews with 45 wins.
- Lilley Nice is also in the top-10 with 37 career singles victories.
- Stephens is third in UT history with 43 doubles wins while Nice is seventh at 34.
UP NEXT:
Tampa faces a trio of nationally-ranked opponents next week, beginning with No. 3 Saint Leo on Wednesday at 3 p.m. The Spartans then travel south to meet No. 47 Palm Beach Atlantic and No. 2 Barry on Saturday and Sunday.
