South Region Champions Place Pair on All-Region Team, Catanach Named Top Coach

LEXINGTON, Ky. – After capturing the program’s 18th NCAA South Region championship, the University of Tampa volleyball program placed a pair of student-athletes on the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-South Region team while head coach Chris Catanach was tabbed the region’s top coach.
Sophomores Sorrel Houghton and Katie McKiel each earned a spot on the all-region team, which is voted on by regional head coaches. The pair will now appear on the ballot for All-American honors.
In his 35th year at the helm of the UT volleyball program, the two-time national championship coach Catanach is the South Region Coach of the Year for the 17th time in his illustrious career.
Houghton, a sophomore outside hitter from Osteen, Fla., was also a first-team all-Sunshine State Conference and D2CCA first-team all-region selection. She enters the NCAA Championships second on the team with 452 kills while hitting at a .269 clip. She also has 94 digs and 38 total blocks.
McKiel, a sophomore outside hitter from Colorado Springs, Colo., was also a first-team all-Sunshine State Conference and D2CCA first-team all-region selection. She currently leads all Spartans with 482 kills and ranks second with 361 digs. She has also totaled 63 blocks.
