Sam Militello Named 2018 Baseball America/ABCA Assistant Coach Of The Year
TAMPA, Fla. – University of Tampa associate head coach Sam Militello has been named the 2018 Baseball America/ABCA NCAA Division II National Assistant Coach of the Year. Baseball America has partnered with the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) for the last 20 years to present the Assistant Coach of the Year award.
In his 18th year on staff at his alma mater, Militello has led a pitching staff and served as the top assistant to head coach Joe Urso. In his time, the Spartans have captured the national championship in 2006, 2007, 2013 and 2015, more than any other program at any level. He has also coached 32 pitchers to MLB draft selections.
Since joining the Spartan staff in 2001, Militello has been part of 13 Sunshine State Conference championship teams, as nine of his teams have won the NCAA South Region. His Spartan teams are786-228-1, winning at a .776 clip. He has been part of Urso reaching the 500, 600 and 700-win milestones faster than any other college coach.
