Sam Freitas Earns SSC Player of Week Recognition

MELBOURNE, Fla. – Following a weekend where he hit at a torrid pace, University of Tampa baseball player Sam Freitas has been pegged as the Sunshine State Conference Player of the Week.
A junior from Lawrenceville, Ga., Freitas earns Player of the Week honors after leading Tampa offensively to a series victory against Lynn University. The junior went 9-for-14 at the plate with six runs scored, four stolen bases, and an RBI across the three games this week.
Freitas‘ top performance came in the final game of the series were he went 4-for-4 with two runs scored, a walk, a stolen base, and an RBI. The Lawrenceville, Georgia native slashed .643/.688/.643 while recording a hit in all three games and reaching base in 11 of his 16 plate appearances.
Athletes of the Week are chosen from a pool of nominees for their performances during the week of March 25 – 31, 2019. Athletes are nominated by Sports Information Directors of member institutions.
