Pasco County, Florida (October 31, 2019) – Regional Medical Center Bayonet Point is proud to announce the appointment of Maryam Bita Tabrizi, M.D. as the Level II Trauma Center’s Trauma Medical Director. Dr. Tabrizi received her medical degree from the University of Tennessee – Memphis College of Medicine. She completed residency at the University of Florida Jacksonville followed by her successful completion of a fellowship in trauma/critical care at USCD – College of Medicine.
From there, Dr. Tabrizi accepted a position as Clinical Instructor at Harvard University and worked at Massachusetts General Hospital as a General Surgeon with trauma and critical care specialties. A year later, she was named Trauma Medical Director at Massachusetts General Hospital’s sister hospital, North Shore Medical Center.
Among her accomplishments there, Dr. Tabrizi developed North Shore’s Acute Care Surgical Program. She also earned Level 3 Trauma Center Verification from the American College of Surgeons while at North Shore.
While at Massachusetts General Hospital, Dr. Tabrizi also served as the general surgeon residency program’s Community Health Director. “This allowed me to get heavily involved in our residency program and mentor residents interested in addressing disparities in healthcare for our patients,” she said. “My time in Boston has taught me so much and I am so grateful to have had such an amazing experience for my first job after fellowship.”
After spending over five years in the New England area, she and her husband decided to move back to Florida where they both did residency at the University of Florida in Jacksonville. Her husband, Dr. Martin Rosenthal, and Dr. Tabrizi are heavily involved in global health. They have worked in Africa, Peru and most recently in Jordan at the Syrian border with Syrian surgeons.
