SARASOTA COUNTY – Don’t miss the 14th Annual Master Gardener Plant Sale and EdFest on Oct. 12, a one-of-a-kind opportunity to get great plants and advice for your landscape and to learn about the array of services provided by Sarasota County Extension.
The event, co-hosted by Extension staff and Master Gardener volunteers, runs 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Twin Lakes Park, 6700 Clark Road, Sarasota. Visitors can choose from among hundreds of shrubs, trees, palms, annuals, herbs and other plant varieties identified as “Florida-friendly” by the University of Florida, and get gardening and landscaping advice from Extension-trained Master Gardeners. The EdFest will showcase public programs and services offered through Extension, from agricultural information to youth development.
“Our Master Gardener volunteers spend thousands of hours each year focused on helping residents create Florida-friendly landscapes that are beautiful and eco-friendly,” said Pat Williams, residential horticulture agent with UF/IFAS Extension Sarasota County. “Their mission to help Sarasota County residents become environmentally aware is at the forefront of all their efforts.”
Admission is free, with plant purchases available by cash or check. Proceeds from sales benefit Sarasota County Master Gardener program efforts to support school gardens and community projects.
The Florida Master Gardener Volunteer program is led by the University of Florida and operated through county-level UF/IFAS Extension offices. In Sarasota County, the program supports demonstration landscapes and educational outreach projects, and operates the popular Plant Clinic help desks.
