Patel Conservatory offers new classes for homeschoolers

Fla. – To meet the demand for high quality performing arts homeschool classes,
the Patel Conservatory again has expanded offerings for the 2019-20 school
year, which begins the week of September 3:
American Musical Theater, for those in grades two
through 12, offers students an overview of musical theater from historical and
performance perspectives. Students explore examples of American musical theater
pieces, as well as musical, theatrical and dance styles from throughout the
20th century. This performance-based class culminates in an end-of-course showcase.
Students are divided by age and skill-appropriate work groups. Class time for
American Musical Theater is 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Wednesdays.
Theater 1, for those aged seven to 17,
allows students to explore basic performance and technical theatrical studies
with the goal of preparing, staging and presenting a classroom showcase of a
scripted one-act play. Students are divided by age and skill-appropriate work
groups. Class time for Theater 1 is Wednesdays, 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.
Young Performing Arts for Homeschool, for those aged three to
six, engages students in a sampler of movement, music, theater games and art
activities, while building confidence and enthusiasm as students collaborate
and explore the performing arts. Options for class times, both on Wednesdays,
include 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. or a three-hour block from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Beginning Piano, for those ages seven to 17,
is designed for the beginner who will explore note reading, piano fundamentals
and creative improvisation in this engaging group piano class. Class time is
Wednesdays, 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.
Beginning Violin, for those aged seven to 17,
is a fun, exploratory class for beginners who will learn the basics of violin
technique. This class is held Wednesdays from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.
Exploring Drumming, for students ages seven to
17, allows students to explore the percussion family of instruments, including
xylophones, drum set, and djembe by playing music from around the world. Students
learn basic music and rhythm notation as applied to percussion instrument
performance. Classes are Wednesdays from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.
Chorus, for those aged seven to 17,
pairs general music training with chorus skills. Students practice healthy
singing and develop musical expression through exciting repertoire selected to
develop ensemble and solo singing techniques. Chorus is taught on Wednesdays
from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.
Endurance Training for the
Stage, for
those aged 10 to 17, uses the basic elements of jazz and contemporary dance to
train students in a variety of warm-ups and technical training, and to increase
range of motion, strength, endurance, agility, coordination, stability and spacial
awareness important for the stage. Classes are held Tuesdays from 11:30 a.m. to
12:15 p.m.
Broadway Buddies, for those aged 10 to 13, pairs
Patel Conservatory homeschool students with students in Pepin Academy’s middle
school theater class. Students focus on the application of social skills and
audience etiquette through theater-based activities. The Broadway Buddies will
create scenic and lobby display elements for Patel Conservatory productions and
attend multiple Straz Center productions together. Each semester culminates
with an open classroom performance opportunity.
Classes
are held Tuesdays from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m.
One-Act
Workshop,
for those aged eight to 13, helps students refine acting and production skills
in preparation for presenting a one-act play at the Florida Theatre Conference
in Gainesville, FL. Classes are held Tuesdays 10:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. for those
ages eight to 10 and 11:45 am. to 12:45 p.m. for those ages 11 to 13.
New
this year are:
Performing Arts for
Homeschool,
for those aged seven to 17, engages homeschool and non-traditional students in
exploring theater, music and movement in an active learning environment.
Emphasizing collaboration through the arts, each semester culminates in an open
classroom showcase performance. Classes are held Wednesdays from 9:30 a.m. to
12:30 p.m.
Middle School One-Act Workshop,
for those aged 11 to 13, helps students refine acting, production and
performance skills in preparation for presenting a one-act play at the Florida
Theatre Conference in Gainesville, FL. Classes are held Tuesdays 2:30 to 4 p.m.
from September 3 through November 19.
Intermediate Piano, for those aged seven to 17,is perfect for students with a year or
more of group piano experience who wish to continue additional group study prior
to taking private lessons. Classes are held Wednesdays from 1 to 2 p.m.
Musical
Theater Movement: Jazz and Tap, for those aged nine to 13, introduces students to basic
musical theater movement skills through the genres of tap and jazz dance.
Students become familiar with basic steps and rhythms to build a strong
technical foundation and explore combinations that are fun and challenging.
Comprehensive
Theater,
for students aged 11 to 13, teaches a comprehensive foundation in the
performing arts through focused training in dance, music, theater rand devised performance.
Students explore new skills and gain a deeper understanding of arts education.
Classes meet Tuesdays from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m.
