Spring Hill, Florida (September 12, 2019) – In a continued effort to fight the looming opioid epidemic, the HCA West Florida GME Consortium/Oak Hill Hospital Anesthesiology Residency program recently hosted a “Grand Rounds” speaker, Jinping Wang, MD.
Jinping Wang, MD, a guest lecturer and highly esteemed Assistant Professor from the Department of Anesthesia, Critical Care & Pain Medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard University, conducted a lecture entitled Looking Beyond Opioid: New Strategies for Opioid Crisis. Residents and faculty at Oak Hill Hospital attended.
Dr. Wang detailed the latest movements in perioperative strategies for treating pain in alignment with current nationwide movements to combat opioid overdose and abuse. His lecture detailed trends in nationwide marijuana use and side effects compared to those of opioids. In his lecture Dr. Wang provided examples of acute perioperative treatments that have been successfully implemented in recent years at Massachusetts General, such as innovative uses of ketamine and peripheral nerve blocks that all show potential for implementation in an acute pain service that will be established at Oak Hill Hospital in the near future through the anesthesiology resident program.
