Oak Hill Hospital Graduate Medical Education Anesthesiology Residency Program Chosen by the American Society of Anesthesiologists as a Site for International Scholar Program
Spring Hill, Florida (October 18, 2019) – The American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) has chosen the Oak Hill Hospital Anesthesiology Residency Program as an international scholar observation site. Each year the ASA sponsors three international scholars to participate at the ASA meeting. Before the meeting, the scholars are assigned to different academic centers for clinical observation.
This year Dr. Gaston Nyirigira was selected as an international scholar to observe at Oak Hill Hospital with Program Director Jeffrey Huang, MD. Dr. Nyirigira is from Rwanda and was selected to participate in several international training programs throughout North America and Africa. He has coauthored countless reviews and abstracts, and has been invited to participate in several academic presentations.
Dr. Nyirigira served as a curriculum reviewer for the University of Rwanda Department of Anesthesiology and participated in the preparation of the council exam for applicants to receive license to practice in the University’s anesthesia department. He received a bachelor’s degree in General Medicine at the National University of Rwanda in 2009 and a Master of Medicine in Anesthesia, Critical Care, and Emergency Medicine from the University of Rwanda in 2015.

The Maternity Suites at Oak Hill Hospital offers advanced labor and delivery capabilities in a comfortable and family centered setting. It will open its 10 private-bed NICU in spring 2020. In addition to the Graduate Medical Education Program, Oak Hill Hospital offers several unique programs in the area, including a 24/7 Critical Care Medicine Program staffed by Intensivists, a Pediatric ER, and a dedicated Pediatric Inpatient Unit.
