Mocs Defeat Spartans in SSC Opener
LAKELAND, Fla. – The No. 39 University of Tampa tennis team fell by a 6-1 decision in its Sunshine State Conference opener at No. 17 Florida Southern College on Wednesday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Mocs earned the point in doubles with wins from the one and three matches by scores of 6-4.
- Florida Southern proceeded to win five of the six singles matches.
- The number-two doubles team of Corbin Dorsey and Maddie Stephens emerged victorious with an 8-6 tiebreak win to earn the 7-6 decision.
- Stephens also won in singles as the number-five event went her favor by scores of 4-6, 6-2, 10-7.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
- Stephens is now alone in seventh place on the all-time chart with 34 career singles wins.
- Lilley Nice is also in the top-10 with 29 career singles victories.
- Stephens is sixth in UT history with 36 doubles wins while Nice is eighth at 30.
UP NEXT:
Tampa will take a break and return to action on Monday, March 4 at home against Eckerd College. The SSC match will start at 3 p.m., at the Naimoli & Young Family Tennis Complex.
