Men’s Soccer Set for 2019 Home Opener
TAMPA, Fla. – The University of Tampa men’s soccer team is set to entertain visiting Flagler College in a matchup between NCAA South Region opponents in the Spartans home opener.

About the Spartans: Tampa is coming off a 2-1 setback in its season opener on Friday, which was a double-overtime loss in Pensacola to South Region foe West Florida. The Argonauts sealed the victory on a golden goal in the 109th minute of play. In the 15th minute the Argonauts capitalized on a penalty kick by redshirt junior Ed Chappe. Following back and forth play, Tampa broke through as forward Till Neumann was able to sneak a ball past goalkeeper Jihad Gomes to knot things up at one apiece. The second half was filled with back and forth play as the two evenly matched teams struggled to remain in control of possession. Following a scoreless first overtime, UWF secured the victory with one minute to play in the second overtime period. Redshirt senior forward Sean Hoffstatter re-entered for West Florida in the 100th minute and netted the game-winner just nine minutes later.
About the Saints: Flagler was shutout by Eckerd by a score of 2-0 in St. Petersburg. The Tritons broke a scoreless deadlock in the 35th minute thanks to a goal from Agustin Pertusso. Eckerd out-shot the Saints 10-3 in the opening half and took a 1-0 lead into the halftime locker room. Flagler responded out of the break and saw the majority of the possession in the opening 20 minutes of the second half, but the Tritons extended their lead against the run of play in the 65th minute. This time, Eckerd’s Blake Bauer headed home a rebound attempt that had caromed off the post to deal the hosts a 2-0 advantage that would hold until the final whistle.
All-Time Series: Tampa owns a commanding 12-3-1 lead in the all-time series. In the series dating back to 1976, the teams will meet for the first time since the 2011 season. Flagler has won the last two meetings over the Spartans. Tampa is 10-1 at home against Flagler.
Tickets: General Admission ticket prices for all Tampa regular season athletic events are $5. Youth (ages 12 and under) are admitted free of charge. Students and faculty/staff are admitted free with a valid UT ID.
