Men’s Lacrosse to Host Florida Tech at Pepin Stadium

TAMPA, Fla. – The University of Tampa men’s lacrosse team is set to host the Florida Tech Panthers at Pepin Stadium on Wednesday, March 27that 7:30 p.m.

Last Time Out: The University of Tampa defeated the Embry-Riddle Eagles 25-8 in their first SSC game of the 2019 season. In the contest, senior Andrew Kew had another outstanding performance earning five goals and three assists in the minutes he played. Due to his superior performance, he was named the SSC offensive player of the week for the second week in a row. This was Kew‘s eighth time in his career earning this weekly honor, tying him for second all-time in SSC men’s lacrosse weekly awards. Also in the contest with the Eagles, Jack Baldwin, Colin White, and Nicholas Ioannou all earned two goals. On defense, senior captain Luke Robideaux led the way stating two caused turnovers and two ground balls. Joe Caputo won 11-17 face-offs for UT and had a team-high of nine ground balls for the Spartans. Head coach, Rory Whipple used all four goalkeepers in the contest with the Eagles. However, Bryan Karn and Alexander Starr were the only keepers to record saves. Karn logged two while Starr stated one.
About the Spartans: Tampa is currently 6-4 on the 2019 season, 1-0 in the Sunshine State Conference. The Spartans are led offensively by senior Andrew Kew. Kew has 51 points on the season made up of 30 goals and 21 assists. Sophomore Colin Whiteis second on the team in points with 30. White has scored 26 times and has stated four assists. Matt Vetter is the third leading scorer for the Spartans with 28 points. He has 14 goals and 14 assists. Defensively, Sam Collingwood has a team-high of 15 caused turnovers on top of his 15 ground balls, while Luke Robideauxhas nine caused turnovers and 22 ground balls. Junior Ross Dickerson remains one of the best faceoff specialists in the nation. He currently has the fifth best face-off winning percentage in all Division II with 75.6%. Dickerson has won 185-243 face-offs from the X. Finally, at keeper, the Spartans have been using the combination of returning SSC Freshman of the Year, B.J. Borowski, and senior Bryan Karn. The two have recorded 97 saves on the season, 68 and 29 respectively.
About the Panthers: The Panthers are currently 5-1 overall, 1-0 in the SSC. Most recently, the Panthers opened up conference competition with a 17-16 win over the Rollins College Tars. This season FIT is led offensively by #3 Logan Sweeney, and #7 Reid Chaconas. Sweeney has recorded 25 points consisting of 14 goals and a team-high of 11 assists. Chaconas has 20 points in his 2019 campaign. He currently leads the Panthers in goals with 16 in addition to having four assists. Addison Abramson, #23, heads the defensive efforts for the Panthers. Abramson has team-high of 13 caused turnovers and is second on the team in groundballs with 43. Tech’s ground ball leader is #1 Ryan Land with 51. Land is also the Panthers leading face-off specialist having recorded 99-149 wins from the X. Finally, the Panthers primary goalkeeper is #16 Dan Flock. Flock has started all six games for FIT, stating 85 saves on the season and a goals against average of 9.58.
