Men’s Lacrosse Seniors Honored in Senior Salute

[ad_1]

TAMPA, Fla. – University of Tampa Athletics would like to celebrate the careers and accomplishments of the men’s lacrosse team this week. Due to their season getting cut short, we will honor each student athlete who will not get a normal senior salute at the end of the season.

Men’s lacrosse will graduate eight seniors and three graduate students from the team this year: Ross Dickerson, Shane Hanlon, Devon Hess, Richie Holle, Evan Killen, Michael Lucchesi, Stephano Mastro, Jake Mosher McGraw, Nick Perrot, Alexander Starr, and Bryan Wright. This group has created and kept alive the winning tradition of the Spartans lacrosse program, notably helping to lead the team to two NCAA quarterfinal appearances and one NCAA semifinals appearance in the past four years.

Ross Dickerson

Dickerson, a midfielder from Berlin, Md., will graduate from University of Tampa with a degree in Sport Management. A captain of the 2020 team, he played in all eight of the games the Spartans were able to complete in the season, recording seven starts during that time. Dickerson holds a commanding lead in the all-time record book for career ground balls (480) and places second in career faceoff win-loss percentage (.760). He is a two time First Team All-SSC Selection, one time USILA All-America South Region Second Team Selection, one time All-American USILA Second Team Selection, and in 2019 he was selected as the Sunshine State Conference All-Championship Team Most Valuable Player. Dickerson has also been a force in the classroom, earning himself a D2 ADA Academic Achievement Award during his time at UT.

Shane Hanlon

Hanlon will graduate from Tampa with a degree in Accounting. The Waxhaw, N.C., native transferred after his freshman year and proceeded to play attack for the Spartans. Hanlon has made 46 appearances for the Spartans over the past three seasons, including all eight of the Spartans games in 2020. He has scored 20 goals and created 22 assists in his career, amounting to a total of 42 points in 46 games. Hanlon recorded several multi-goal games in his career including games against Saint Leo, Westminster (Utah), and a 2018 #15 ranked Florida Tech during his sophomore season.

Devon Hess

Devon Hess, a midfielder for the Spartans, will graduate with a degree in Economics. After redshirting his freshman season, the Downingtown, Pa. native would go on to collect a D2 ADA Academic Achievement Award in his sophomore campaign. After a junior season where he saw action in 17 games, Hess was announced a captain for his senior year. Hess lands 5th in the all time record books for his career all-time faceoff W-L percentage (0.710), an impressive accolade. Twice in the 2020 season Hess was able to collect seven ground balls per game, once against Young Harris and once against North Greenville. Additionally against Young Harris, he achieved a single game high of 10 faceoff wins

Richie Holle

Holle, a graduate student pursuing a degree in Business, attended Mount St. Mary’s University before coming to Tampa. Originally from Saddle River, N.J., Holle played midfield for the Spartans in his final year of eligibility, recording seven appearances in the sole eight games of the 2020 season. Holle recorded two goals against Saint Rose earlier this season and recorded an assist against Emmanuel (Ga.) in what would be the final game for the Spartans. He logged six ground balls and one caused turnover on the short season.

Evan Killen

Killen, an East Meadow, N.Y., native, will graduate from the University of Tampa with a degree in Management. He transferred to Tampa after his sophomore season and logged 12 appearances for the Spartans in his debut season. The midfielder grabbed five caps and one start in the sole eight games of 2020, collecting two ground balls and nabbing a goal in the final game of the season against Emmanuel (Ga.).

Michael Lucchesi

Luccchesi, a Lake Tapps, Washington native, was a midfielder for the Tampa Spartans. The grad student, pursuing Nursing, has been named to the SSC Commissioner’s Honor Roll four times in his career, including his sophomore year which he redshirted. Lucchesi has appeared in 49 games for the Spartans, including all eight of the 2020 season. Notable career achievements include a goal which he scored against the 2017 #2 Limestone and 19 ground balls collected in his junior season. Lecchesi was able to complete his career for the Spartans with a start and a goal in the final game of 2020 against Emmanuel (Ga.).

Stephano Mastro

Mastro, a grad student pursuing a degree in finance, played attack for Tampa. A native of Tampa, Fla., Mastro previously attended Mount St. Mary’s University before transferring to University of Tampa for his final year of eligibility. He recorded eight caps as a Spartan for the eight games played in 2020, scoring three goals on the season. His three goals came in games against Young Harris, North Greenville, and against the #9 ranked Adelphi.

Jake Mosher McGraw

Mosher McGraw will be graduating from the University of Tampa with a degree in Political Science. From Saint John, New Brunswick, he has been a force for the Spartans since his freshman season, recording an All-SSC Second Team selection, two First Team All-SSC selections, an USILA All-America South Region Second Team selection, and an USILA  All-American Second Team selection during his career. Mosher McGraw boasts third place for career goals in the all time record books (116 goals) and fifth in career points with 149 (116 goals, 33 assists). A captain for the 2020 squad, he recorded a season high four goals in two different games this season, coming against Young Harris and North Greenville.

Nick Perrot

Perrot, a defender from Chesapeake, Va., will graduate from the University of Tampa with a degree in Marketing. Perrot transferred to Tampa from Harford Community College after his sophomore year, and he appeared in 15 games for the Spartans in his debut season. After a standout junior season, Perrot was named to captain the 2020 squad. He collected eight starts on the eight games of the 2020 season. In those few short games, Perrot collected 13 ground balls while forcing seven caused turnovers against opponents.

Alexander Starr

Starr, a Pittsford, N.Y. native, will graduate from the University of Tampa with a degree in Finance. The goalkeeper transferred to Tampa from Mercyhurst University after his sophomore school year (Starr redshirted his freshman season). Despite the short length of the season, Starr had a hot 2020, starting and playing in all eight games for the Spartans and recording a win percentage of 100%. He achieved Sunshine State Player of the Week accolades twice in his senior season, most recently during the week of March 16 for his performances against #17 Mount Olive and Emmanuel College. He helped the defense stymie the Trojans to their lowest scoring output in two years and picked up a save percentage of .611 with 11 saves on the week. Starr and his efforts and success in the net helped fuel the 2020 Spartans to an undefeated season.

Bryan Wright

Wright, a native of Moorestown, N.J., will graduate from Tampa with a degree in Management. Named a captain for the 2020 season, the attackman closed out his career starting and playing in all eight games. Starting 49 of his 62 appearances for the Spartans, he collected an All-SSC Freshman Team selection in his debut season, an SSC All-Championship Team selection, and several SSC Player of the Week honors, including three in the five week 2020 season. Wright takes fourth place in the all time records for both points (158) and goals (113). On the year, he scored a game high five goals on two occasions, both against Young Harris and #17 Mount Olive.

The University of Tampa Athletic Department would like to extend congratulations to the men’s lacrosse Class of 2020 for their impressive careers, academically and athletically. As these men go on to the next chapter of their lives, we wish them all the best, and we thank them for their dedication to the program, the school, and the sport.

Please join the Tampa Spartans as we honor the seniors of each of our spring sports teams. As a result of the cancelation of all spring games and competition, typical senior-honoring events have also been canceled. We will select a different team each week for which we will honor those graduating this year.

Follow us @TampaSpartans on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube to keep up with our senior salutes.
