McKiel Earns SSC Offensive Player of the Week Honors
TAMPA, Fla. – University of Tampa’s Katie McKiel earned her first Sunshine State Conference Player of the Week award. The junior outside hitter earned this award after her strong opening weekend to kick off the 2019 season.
McKiel led the way for the top-ranked Spartans, as she finished the week with a total of 51 kills and hit at a .290 percentage. She also added 40 digs on the weekend.
Against the 17th ranked University of Central Missouri, McKiel recorded 23 kills, which is tied for second-most in her career. McKiel also recorded 18 digs to finish the match with a double-double.
In the battle of top-five teams, she led the Spartans to a victory over fifth-ranked Concordia-St. Paul. In the match, she recorded a game-high 17 kills and swung at a .292 percentage.
Up next for the Spartans will be the Colorado Premier Challenge in Denver, Colorado, as they face 20th ranked Texas A&M-Commerce at 1:00 p.m. EST and against Regis University at 8:00 p.m. EST.
