Jake Richards Named SSC Player of the Week
MELBOURNE, Fla. – Jake Richards was rewarded for his excellent play as the senior goalkeeper was tabbed the Sunshine State Conference Defensive Player of the Week.
Richards is awarded Defensive Player of the Week for his performance in Tampa’s two conference wins last week. The Englishman made four saves and allowed one goal in the Spartans’ 3-1 win at Saint Leo University. Richards followed with a clean sheet and six saves in a 1-0 victory against Rollins College. His 61 saves this season places him first among conference goalkeepers. Richards is the first Spartan to be named Defensive Player of the Week in men’s soccer since October 20th, 2014 (Zak Downes).
Athletes of the Week are chosen from a pool of nominees for their performances during the week of October 21 – 27, 2019. Athletes are nominated by Sports Information Directors of member institutions.
