Hugo Bustamante Picks Up SSC Swimmer of Week Honor

MELBOURNE, Fla. – University of Tampa sophomore swimmer Hugo Bustamante was tabbed as the Sunshine State Conference Men’s Swimmer of the Week for his efforts against Eastern Illinois in a Saturday morning dual meet.
Bustamante, a sophomore from Santiago, Chile, helped the Spartans to a dual meet victory over visiting Eastern Illinois University on Saturday. The Chilean took gold in the 200 Free in 1:46.72 and was followed by teammates Andreas Johnsen and Aaron James in the top three. Bustamante went on to win the 100 Back after being timed at 54.23, nearly one second better than EIU’s top swimmer.
Athletes of the Week are chosen from a pool of nominees for their performances during the week of December 30, 2019 – January 5, 2020. Athletes are nominated by Sports Information Directors of member institutions.
