Heartbeat International Foundation (HBI), a non-profit based in Tampa, is seeking to raise $40,000 this GivingTuesday, to supports its life-saving efforts around the world.

“GivingTuesday is a critical time for HBI to bring in donations to save lives in the coming year,” says Laura DeLise, Executive Director, HBI.

“We’re calling on the Tampa community to come together to help us make an impact. Every dollar makes a difference in the life of someone in need of a pacemaker,” says Mrs. DeLise.

HBI is excited to announce that this #GivingTuesday all donations will be matched by local sponsor up to $20,000. To receive the entire $20,000 match, community donations must also reach $20,000.

HBI is a 501C(3) charity that provides life-saving cardiac implantable devices to impoverished families in developing countries. Over the last 35 years, the organization has provided more than 16,000 life-saving heart surgeries around the world. In addition to the pacemaker surgery, every patient of HBI receives a lifetime of follow-up care.

Led by Dr. Benedict S. Maniscalco, a Tampa cardiologist, the charity has saved the lives of women, men, and children through its global network of volunteer doctors, device sponsors such as BIOTRONIK and Boston Scientific, as well as the generosity of philanthropists in Tampa and beyond who have donated funds to support the cause.

“We are the largest supplier of implantable devices around the world of any charitable organization,” says Dr. Maniscalco. “What’s more important is that we’re structured in a way that allows for patient care to be exemplary and continuous.”

“Every day that I’m at home in the United States, I know somewhere around the world, one or two lives are being saved,” says Dr. Maniscalco. “That’s an incredible feeling.”
