The community is invited to attend the free family event
Manatee County Habitat for Humanity is hosting its 25th birthday party to thank the community for its support and celebrate the importance of home. The event is free and takes place on Saturday, November 9 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Bradenton Riverwalk.
Special guests include Lulu from radio station WCTQ; Susie Walters, the organization’s first executive director; Dick Gross from Kiwanis Bradenton who helped fund the first home; and the very first Manatee Habitat homebuyer – whose mortgage is now paid off.
The public is invited to the family-friendly celebration to enjoy the many activities planned. Manatee Technical College will be helping kids build bird houses with wood supplied by Lowe’s, there will be building and educational games; a vendor scavenger hunt, and Jenga and Corn Hole competitions. Southern Manatee Fire Department will be giving tours of their truck and birthday cake will be served! Food will be available from Boar’s Head Hot Dogs, Basic ‘Witches and Kona Ice.
The presenting sponsor of the party is It Works! Foundation, and other sponsors include Bank of America, Bradenton Kiwanis, Boar’s Head, Bradenton Herald, iHeartMedia and Lowe’s. Students and faculty from Manatee County School District and Manatee Technical College will participate and provide building instruction and demos.
Since 1994, Manatee Habitat has built 134 homes and recently broke ground on its 25th Anniversary Home Build. One of the few Habitat for Humanity organizations that also offer a major repair program, they will be celebrating 25 years of improving the quality of life for Manatee County residents and the many volunteers, sponsors and donors who have made it possible.
