Franciscan Center’s Free Music Series Explores the Color of Music
Tampa, FL – The Franciscan Center, in partnership with the Straz
Center for the Performing Arts, presents the Straz Music Discovery Series, a free
music lecture series. Patel Conservatory Music Chair Dr. Lauren Baker Murray covers a wide range of topics concerning the
inner workings of music and the musical world. She explores music written for
the symphony orchestra, music from cultures around the world, and music from
the early 20th century.
The next installment
is The Acoustics of Sound: Tone Color and Sonic Painting on Tuesday,
Nov. 19, 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Franciscan Center at 3010 N. Perry Avenue in Tampa, FL 33603. Next month, the topic for December will be The
Symphony Orchestra, Its Roots, Ruin and Return, on Tuesday, Dec. 17, 3:30 to
4:30 p.m.
Murray is the music
chair at the Patel Conservatory at the Straz Center for
the Performing Arts. A native of Tampa, she enjoys an active career as a recitalist, chamber musician, and
educator. She received the D.M.A in Oboe Performance from The University of
North Texas, the M.M from Yale University, and a Bachelor of Music Education
from Stetson University. Murray has served on the faculties of the
University of Northern Colorado, Murray State, Austin Peay, and the University
of South Florida.
