Open Streets St. Pete returns to the city’s waterfront on Sunday, Oct. 20, 2019. Bayshore Dr. SE will be car-free from Al Lang Field, past the Dali Museum to Albert Whitted Park, and open to all forms of bicycle, pedestrian, skates, and other wheeled fun. The event will feature food trucks, live music, and a wide variety of family-friendly activities along the beautiful stretch waterfront. The fun kicks off at 11am and goes until 4pm. 

Open Streets St. Pete is organized by local bicycle advocacy non-profit, Shift St. Pete, and is presented in co-sponsorship with the City of St. Petersburg, Car Free St. Pete, and AARP. Open Streets is modeled after a tradition that began in Bogota, Columbia, and has spread world-wide, repurposing public streets for safe, free park-like environment on Sundays when there is less traffic. Family-friendly activities will take place throughout the day, including group fitness classes, yoga, music, art, games, and giveaways. There will be appearances by local team mascots, the Deadly Rival Roller Derby, and the Trek bike tent will be on hand for bike safety and repair tips. “Open Streets is excited to promote a safe coexistence of cars and people in Downtown St. Pete. It’s important that our growth continues to consider the experience that residents and visitors have as they inhabit our city,” said committee chair, Cesar Morales. “We are encouraged by the city’s focus on improving safety and access for all forms of transportation. By repurposing a section of road for car-free public use on the weekend, Open Streets serves to highlight how small changes such as protected bike lanes, side walks, bike-share, and park space, collectively have a huge impact on livability.”

Organizers expect 2,000 to 3,000 attendees for this free event.
