Cybersecurity Attorney Kevin Mekler Joins Nelson Mullins in Tampa
TAMPA – Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough LLP announced today that Kevin M. Mekler has joined the firm as a partner in Tampa. He previously held the position of managing director and counsel in Bond and Specialty Insurance for Travelers and managed a team of claim professionals responsible for fidelity, crime, cyber, and kidnap and ransom losses under multiple bonds and policies.
Mekler will devote his practice to addressing the privacy and security needs of companies and institutions across multiple industries. He identifies information risks and how to minimize those risks in view of prudent business practices given today’s digital environment. Mekler works with companies to address their regulatory compliance and transactional needs across the privacy landscape. He assists companies in assessing their information security platforms, developing appropriate policies, procedures, plans, and trainings and navigating security and privacy incidents when they occur.

Prior to his work at Travelers, Mekler practiced as a civil litigator for 10 years. His professional experience included insurance coverage litigation, commercial litigation, and trial work in fidelity, surety, and local government and governmental agency. He also served as a target intelligence analyst in the U.S. Air Force.
He earned his JD, cum laude, from Stetson University Law School in 2004 and his BS in accounting, cum laude, from Park University in 2001.
