Claire Swanson Earns IWLCA Division II National Offensive Player of the Week Honors
GRAND LAKE, Colo. – For the second time in program history, a University of Tampa women’s lacrosse player earns IWLCA National Player of the Week Honors. Both of these honors have come from junior captain Claire Swanson. Earlier this season, Swanson was named the IWLCA Division II Defensive National Player of the Week (3/6/19), today she is named the IWLCA Division II Offensive Player of the Week. Swanson is also the Sunshine State Conference Offensive Player of the Week due to her outstanding performance on the field.
Swanson is awarded the National Offensive Player of the Week after leading Tampa to two wins against the then No. 3 Florida Southern College, and Young Harris College. The Spartans UPSET the Moccasins 16-14, they then dominated the Mountain Lions by a final score of 24-7. The Cheyenne, Wyoming product tallied four goals and two assists against the Moccasins, and three goals and one assist against the Mountain Lions. For the week, Swanson took nine shots, placing eight on goal, picked up four ground balls, won 21 draw controls, and caused one turnover. Additionally, Swanson leads the Sunshine State Conference in draw controls per game and is ranked seventh nationally.
Catch Swanson and the rest of the women’s lacrosse squad, tonight as they take on the Florida Tech Panthers in Melbourne, Florida at 7:00 p.m. The Spartans don’t return home until Saturday, April 13th, where they will welcome the Palm Beach Atlantic Sailfish for a 1:00 p.m. contest.
