LAKELAND, FL, October 10, 2019 — SVN | Saunders Ralston Dantzler Real Estate Senior Advisor Carson Futch recently represented Green Point Research in the purchase of a nursery located in Fort Meade, Florida.

The nursery, which sold for $2,150,000 is a turnkey operation that was being used for the growth of several different species of flowers. SVN | Saunders Ralston Dantzler advisors Kyle Vreeland, Greg Smith, and Richard Dempsey, ALC listed the property for the seller, Sunshine Growers.

The buyer, Green Point Research is headquartered in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The company contacted Futch for assistance in locating a nursery in Florida to convert for use in the growth of hemp plant starters. After looking at several nurseries, Futch was able to locate one that met Green Point Research’s specifications. After the property was identified, Futch began negotiating a deal for the purchase of the nursery.

“This deal was interesting because the buyer’s goal is to be on the front end of the industrial hemp revolution,” said Futch. “The licenses haven’t been issued yet, but this is our company’s first time being involved in a sale related to Florida’s up and coming hemp industry.”

Green Point Research is a cultivator and processor of industrial hemp with growing operations in both Colorado and California. Industrial hemp is a quickly-developing industry in Florida where farmers are looking for alternative crops to replace vegetable farmland and citrus losses due to imports and citrus greening.

In 2018, Futch was appointed to serve on the UF/IFAS Industrial Hemp Pilot Project Advisory Committee. In this role, he is helping to assess and recommend guidelines for growing, manufacturing and processing varieties of hemp for production across Florida as a new agricultural industry.
