Bridget Sutter Earns IWLCA DII Defensive Player of the Week Honors

GRAND LAKE, Colo. – For the third time in program history, a University of Tampa women’s lacrosse player earns IWLCA National Player of the Week Honors. As announced by the IWLCA today, Bridget Sutter is the IWLCA DII National Player of the Week. Sutter is also the Sunshine State Conference Defensive Player of the Week due to her outstanding performance on the field.
Sutter is awarded the National Defensive Player of the Week after leading her team to a 2-0 record last week, helping the Spartans defeat the No. 22 Saint Leo Lions 19-13 before closing out regular season competition with 20-8 win over the Embry-Riddle Eagles. The sophomore goalkeeper faced 24 shots and made 11 saves against Saint Leo, while chipping in with a team-high six ground balls and one caused turnover. Against the ERAU Eagles, Sutter made seven saves and collected seven ground balls.
Catch Sutter and the rest of the women’s lacrosse squad, Thursday as they take on the Rollins College Tars in the semifinals of the Sunshine State Conference Tournament. The game is slated to take place in Winter Park, Florida at 7:30 p.m. Should the Spartans win, the team will advance to the SSC Championship game, hosted by the highest seed of the teams remaining.
