Alec Aleywine Earns SSC Player of Week Honors
MELBOURNE, Fla. – Following a week where No. 2 University of Tampa baseball went 5-0, junior first baseman/designated hitter Alec Aleywine has been presented with Sunshine State Conference Player of the Week honors. The awards were announced on Monday by SSC Commissioner Ed Pasque.
Aleywine earns Player of the Week honors after leading Tampa offensively to a 4-0 week, including a series sweep over conference opponent Saint Leo University. The junior was 7-for-12 at the plate with nine runs batted in, four runs scored, two home runs, and four walks. The Panama City, Florida native’s top game of the week came in the second game against Saint Leo where he went 3-for-4 with seven runs batted in and two home runs. The first baseman slashed .583/.688/1.250 and had a hit in all four games this week.
Athletes of the Week are chosen from a pool of nominees for their performances during the week of March 11 – 17, 2019. Athletes are nominated by Sports Information Directors of member institutions.
