A new Broadway musical inspired by Alanis Morissette‘s iconic “Jagged Little Pill” album has become a member of the Million Dollar Club in its first full week of previews.
“Jagged Little Pill” draws on themes from the singer’s classic 1995 release, and focuses on a picture-perfect family struggling to face tough truths.
It earned an impressive $1.1 million from eight previews in the week leading up to Sunday, November 10, with an estimated 95 per cent of seats at the Broadhurst Theatre filled, reports Deadline.
The early bumper box office is great news for producers as the show only began previews on November 3. It officially opens on December 5.
Morissette has been involved in the musical’s development since the start in 2017, when she teamed up with “Juno” screenwriter Diablo Cody to write the show’s book. It premiered at the American Repertory Theater in Cambridge, Massachusetts last summer, when the production enjoyed a sold-out run.
Each of the main castmembers from the American Repertory Theater, including Elizabeth Stanley as lead character Mary Jane ‘M.J.’ Healy – the role originally played by Idina Menzel during a previous read-through, have reprised their roles on Broadway.
