University Area CDC Properties Close Through April 14

Tampa, Fla. –  To protect the health and safety of community members and staff, University Area CDC facilities and properties will be closed through April 14. This includes the University Area Community Center Complex, Computer Lab, Mort Park and Harvest Hope Park. All programming, activity and events (internally and externally) have been canceled, as have Family Food Fest set for April 18 and the 2020 Attainable Housing Summit on April 23.

“At University Area CDC, we have been working hard to put measures in place to reduce the risk of contracting or spreading COVID-19. We are taking preventative actions and implementing proactive steps to ensure the health and safety of our guests, employees, donors, volunteers and the community,” stated Sarah Combs, University Area CDC CEO and executive director.

Realizing the importance that University Area CDC programs play in the lives of many of the area’s residents, the organization has developed, and continues to develop, online classes and videos to help ease the burden through this uncertain time.

Prodigy® Cultural Arts Program instructors have developed video tutorials on the following topics: life skills, painting, drawing, dancing, bass guitar, the shaker and more. They are all available at uacdc.org/prodigyonline. More Prodigy® videos are being developed on a variety of subjects, and will be added weekly.

University Area CDC is developing Get Moving! exercise videos as well, free for the public, which will be posted in links soon to be provided at uacdc.org.

Serving the community for more than 20 years, University Area CDC provides support for thousands of Tampa residents through holistic programming, adult education and resource assistance. Its primary mission is the redevelopment and sustainability of at-risk neighborhoods in the Uptown/University area, surrounding University of South Florida’s Tampa campus. More information about University Area CDC, a 501(c)(3) public/private partnership, is available by calling 813.558.5212 and by visiting uacdc.org.
